9:07 am - Fun in LA / Life Musings
Just got back from another trip to LA. This time I went down for my father's surprise retirement party - He had a blast. Mom did a great job getting everything together, Matt did a great roast, I did a great job at eating.

Matt gave me a bunch of Disney Pins. Thanks Matt! Now I am several hundred into this god forsaken pin trading. haha. I will, of course, be making a database of my pins and putting it up on my site!

I also bought four large attraction posters, and all four of the Haunted Mansion stretching posters. Inspired by Carol, I decided I needed to liven my place up, and what better than with what I love the most, Disneyland! That was a nice chunk of change (though much cheaper than had I gotten the really nice canvas ones). Then I looked into ornate wooden frames - $300-$500 apiece! omg. Well I am not spending $4,000 on $300 worth of posters, so I talked to Matt's friend Steve and learned about some things I can do myself. I have figured out a way to build frames and back the posters so that I can, over time, add the glass and decoration as I get money, ie a job, without needing to leave them all rolled up now.

Had a good talk with Matt about life, God, family. As much as some of his stuff hurt, it surprisingly didn't bother me. I guess I am finally to the point where I would rather have someone's honest feelings than BS coverup just to avoid conflict. We all know where the latter got me.

So everyday I learn something new about myself.

This week I am finising up the beta demo of TK3 for my ex-boss. Today's task is to get the code mapped out as to what will work in the demo and what will have to be disabled. Will be a modern day miracle, but one that is much needed.

I have been going out some. That has also helped me focus on where I want to be down the road. Not in the sense that I want to be somewhere for someone else, but i want to be somewhere so I am ready to accept someone else, something I have not been ready for for quite some time.

I will truly give what my heart can give, and hope that someday love is given in return. I am a good hearted person, I make mistakes but never consciously. Some who think I am cold really don't know me, or understand all of the emotions I deal with from time to time. Those who truly know me have reminded me that I am too hard on myself and have always given freely of myself. Those things I must remember, that while it is better to give than to receive, we all need to receive lest we be drained of that which we have to give. A well unreplenished is soon a well void of gift.

Thus, I think I have been starting to see that the back of my brain has been making sure that the people in my life give as much as I do, and I didn't even realize why I had certain feelings. It takes time, a lot of it, to start to understand certain thoughts or flashes of cognitive twinkie bars that sort of jam your thought process up with unhealthy goop.

I just can always explain why I feel certain ways sometimes and I know that frustrates people. Now I know I cannot always have the magic answer, that I have always been honest with my feelings and that I can continue forward in friendships and relationships knowing I am being as honest with myself as possible.

6:50 pm - Feeling better
The summer has been a long, trying one of introspection, love, pain, friends and growth. I am feeling much better now, whether it is self growth or other changes I have made in my life.

I have wonderful people around me which I cannot thank them enough.

Even today, in the 95 degree heat, I whipped out my car shop manual, removed my trunk lining, removed my back seat cushion, removed my back seat, ran RCA wire from the trunk to the front, wrapped it all in electrical tape, zip tied it and the harness up to try and prevent any fire hazards, and put it all back together (even fixing the sloppy job the GPS installers did last year)

And the best part, all I had was water to drink. I took my time, didn't rush. It took some time to figure out just what attached to what.

The result? A lot of sweat, no more CD player, but a connection for my iPod to allow full fidelity music in the car.

Rock on, literally!

My personal life is very healthy too. The longer I am therapy, the more I learn about myself, which allows me to be a better person for those who are in my life. That in and of itself makes me a very happy camper.

10:50 pm - iPod music in the car!
I finally found an acceptable solution to playing my MP3s in the car without hacking the hell out of it.

for $75 I bought a factory kit from RCA Inputs that basically does three things:

* It grabs power from the amp, using an inline plug
* You then disconnect the factory CD player in the trunk and plug its cable into this harness
* It then mimicks the CD player, so the audio works, and supplies two RCA connectors (in the trunk)

Run a little wire to the console and voila, awesome sounding music from the iPod! No hiss, no whine, nothing!

Of course the CD player is now useless, but if I ever sell the car, I simply unplug this gizmo and plug the CD player in (or sell it with the car, as it is make and model specific)

Now my only questions are:

* How do I safely mount this new wiring and box as to not be a fire hazard
* There is one extra connector (female) that the instructions don't elude to, so I want to figure that out.

As Ozzy would sing, "No More hiss, hiss, hiss, no more hiss"

6:20 pm - Weekend trip
Scott and Jeanie flew me down to San Diego this weekend to visit and I had a terrific time. Thanks you guys!

I arrived on Thursday night and we hung out talking. Friday, Scott's parents came by while we were out shopping for the get together his mom had planned for Saturday. It was her 40th academy graduation anniversary and she was having classmates over from church.

Earlier on Friday we headed in to Millenium, an Apple specialist and had my keyboard replaced under Applecare. Took all of 5 minutes, and now I can type again!

Friday night Scott BBQed and we had a nice dinner. Saturday everyone came over after church and we spent the afternoon talking after lunch, then went to an estuary for a nice sundown hike. The guests parted ways and we came home to prepare for dinner.

I took Scott and Jeanie out to dinner for their wedding anniversary to an Italian place in Encinitas. I had veal for the first time and it was rather good!

Sunday we took the kids to Disneyland after lunch and had a grand ole time! I made sure we did the canoes, as William and Christie had not been on them before (as a matter of fact, neither had Jeanie) I sat behind Christie and after the paddler in front of her was good and soaked, I took up paddling assistance duty.

I took William on Indiana Jones for the first time, while Christie went with mom and dad on Casey Jrs. It was pretty warm all day, so many breaks for potty and refreshments were had.

Of course we rode Haunted Mansion, Pirates and Splash Mountain. We also headed over to California Adventure and sat in on the Village People concert! Whoop! That was a blast!

I picked up some Haunted Mansion related goodies including the newly released Haunted Mansion Clue! I also picked up a Haunted Mansion Hearse (WDW/MK vintage), a metal Doom Buggie, a pin and the Haunted Mansion CD. I have also ordered the Haunted Mansion Playset! I think I will start collection things related to my favorite rides, Pirates being the other.

I flew home monday and I already miss em. I love the kids and they love me. I still have the neck burns from the wrestling and I have some Pod racing to beef up on, William!

6:05 pm - Panasonic Wet/Dry Shaver rocks!
After my trip to San Diego (in which I did not take a blade, my mistake) I decided to look into a better electric shaver. My braun was not cutting it any longer, especially for my scalp.

I use the Total Shaving Solution oil, which is great, especially in the shower. I went to their site (http://www.totalshavingsolution.nu) and they had articles on the Panasonic Wet/Dry shavers.

I found the one they hilited, the ES8067S at Fred Meyer for $129 so I picked it up. It has a linear motor for 13,000 RPM and let me tell you, this thing rocks! Using TSS and warm water, it cut through my hair and left none but one mark. No red skin like from my Mach 3. As it uses induction charging, you can use it fully under water, but I chose to do it at the sink because I needed to clean it often due to not fully shaving in a week.

To clean, you put hand soap on the foil, add water and turn on. After it foams, pop off the head and rinse. My hair/oil had clogged the blades, so I turned it on outside of its foil under water and that shook all of the gunk out.

It took two passes but my scalp is razor clean, and my Braun could never ever get this close. Add in no irritation (My scalp would sting after using the Mach 3, not so this time) and it looks like this one is a winner.

Another advantage of the linear motor is that as the battery wears down, the speed of the blades won't get slower. It will just shut off when too low to power the system. Panasonic claims about 7 shavings per 1 hour charge (Less for me, as I shave more)

The charger is a base unfortunately (due to the induction system) so that means a little more space in the bag, but not terrible.

Check out the current line (be sure to get the Linear motor models) at:

7:55 pm - Whew
Spent 10 hours updating my site with the trial version of Dreamweaver MX. Am going to pick up the MX suite. While I found (and worked around) a number of bugs, using templates is really cool, and with optional editable regions, I can start to do some of the things I have wanted to do for a long time quite easily.

Now I can change the look and feel without much work. Next step - Check out local database integration, followed by PHP/mySQL support investigations.

7:48 pm - Busy Day!
Have friends coming over for a little party, should be here soon!

I am baking bread, now that I know how poorly my oven dial matches the real temperature inside! I went for a 2 hour hike in Forest Park, that was awesome. Had an hour of music queued up with iPod, was great!

Then I went shopping for groceries, bought 3 cds (Goldmember Soundtrack, Best of Tom Jones and Best of Beach Boys rofl), had lunch, mowed the lawn, pulled some weeds, tried out this new gadget rake my mom shipped to me (Garden Grabber, actually works well!), did laundry, cleaned the kitchen, then did the bread, it is still rising. of course that generated more dishes. This is the first time I hand mixed/kneaded over using my Kitchen Aid mixer. I think manual will work better, as one loaf of dough is not enough for this monster mixer I bought last Dec lol.

Well back to checking the oven, I am making a little calibration index card so I can remember what to set the dang thing to in order to achieve my desired temp!

7:46 pm - Celebrity Deathmatch - Cyndi vs. Cher
The concert two nights ago was fun. I am glad I went alone - I felt out of place with all of the gay guys, but I felt good about doing something fun without needing others to go too.

The audio was horrible - Could hardly understand even plain dialogue. I think it was due to being to the side, at the top of the cheap seats. Too many echos for that loud of volume. If I go to a concert in the Rose Garden again, I will have dead center seats!

Cyndi was great. Getting out into the crowd, playing the mandlay, recorder and guitar.

Cher was a huge "look how great I am" over the top, 100 costume performance. I guess I would have had more fun if I could have understood the words hehe.

Still am glad I went and got to see both of them, would go again!

8:55 pm - Lazy Sunday
Went to see Goldmember, it rocked. There were a few dumb moments, but several where I was literally in tears from laughing. OMG, Mike Meyers rules.

I think I know what I will be for halloween if I end up at some costume party, haha.

I looked for rotisserie ovens but could not find any local that I liked, so I gave up on that idea for now.

Went shopping at the store, picked up some index cards for work, going to break down my code into a bunch of little cards, organize em and then tear em up as I complete the tasks!

It is warm again today. Am going to the Falls tomorrow, I hope the water is cooling!

6:13 pm - As evil as it sounds....
I am close to wanting congress to pass a "Anti Net Congestion Act" which requires ISPs to shut down machines doing port scans and other cracker type activities.

I pay for a certain bandwidth and its clogged by kiddies running scripts, or infected servers trying to attack me.

Sucks.

12:27 pm - Belief
Why can't we believe the things others tell us, or just take them at face value, not over analyse, and move on?

I know i need to work on this. It frustrates me when I can't just accept an answer, that I have to find a different meaning that relates to me somehow. Feels patethic.

I will keep trying to grow......

11:56 am - Gadget of the day
Clorox Ready Mop - $25 (I have 4 $5 off coupons now heh) very cool. Sure you gotta use their pads and cleaner, but its SO DAMN EASY to mop now, and you don't end up with a sticky floor. Its light, too!

The only thing it is NOT good at is getting off food super stuck. So I used a popsicle stick to scrape that off, then the cleaner was able to dissolve the rest.

When done, toss the pad in the trash, no sponge to get hard and ruin the mop!

See it

Crap I was searching for the leg bolts for my pinball machine, could not find em, so I found a site that listed which ones to get, then it said "when moving, don't screw them into the case, as if they are bumped, they will losen the plate" LOL,so I checked (the machine is still packed) and sure enough, that is what I did LOL

1:58 pm - Kudos and Jeers to Apple
Kudos for iTunes 3! Very nice update! First off, it moves your iTunes folder into the Music Folder! Next it can rename all of your folders/files to match the MP3 tags! No more short chopped file names!

Lastly, under preferences->effects, you can check "Check Level" which will go through your library and normalize all of your songs! Normalizing sets the playback volume so that all songs are the relatively same volume level. This allows you to listen to rock and classical without constantly fiddling with the volume. Great for the iPod in the car!

Jeers to charging for mac.com (now .mac) email addresses. Sure the deal is ok considering what you get with it, but still Apple, jeers for for Microsoft tactic of giving us a free email address and then taking it away.

I can't return my iPod either, because I was good Steve and registered it! That started the warranty period, sigh. So I am paying $125 a week for therapy to help me stop procrastinating, and that just cost me an upgraded iPod. GRRR haha.

Maybe I can sell mine for a good deal, since I have the extended warranty and all.

Looks like 10.2 will be a paid update. And as always, tons of new features with not enough details, like will iSync work with my USB Adaptor palm phone, or will they screw me with my less than a year old device?

I am beginning to loathe technology.

Trying to stream the MacWorld Keynote. Can't get into the QuickTime nor the Quicktime/MP4 stream.

"Watch Apple CEO Steve Jobs deliver the Macworld Expo keynote address from the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York. See the live webcast right here on July 17 at 9am ET exclusively in QuickTime. It's an event you won't want to miss."

Yeah, thanks Apple. Maybe you should have told Akamia the same thing.
